Update October 2025:
U.S. Customs has announced that import tariffs on all products are expected to increase 10% from 35% to 45% across all goods, including LCD screens. This change is anticipated to take effect in the coming days. We’ll update this notice once the new rate is officially in place, but please be aware that higher tariffs may apply soon at checkout under “USA Tariff Tax Rates.”
September 2025:
We have re-enabled shipping to the US on the MakerPlane Store. However, to comply with new US Customs rules, duties will now be collected at checkout:
- 4.5% tariff on LCD screens (e.g., 5″ Sunlight Readable Touchscreen HDMI Display for Raspberry Pi)
- 35% tariff on all other products
These tariffs are mandatory and will appear as “USA Tariff Tax Rates” during checkout.
Why this is happening
The United States has changed the rules around what’s called the de minimis duty level. This is the threshold that lets small packages from outside the US come in without extra taxes or duties, which was set at $800 and is now $0.
As a result, all postal packages from Canada to the US now face duties, which must be collected before delivery.
What this means for you:
- Duties are applied upfront at checkout rather than after shipping.
- We cannot absorb these costs, as our margins are very small.
- Without this change, US Customs would block packages until duties were paid, causing delays and frustration.
We recognize this is frustrating and makes ordering more expensive. We’re continuing to monitor the situation and hope that in the future we can resume US shipments without mandatory tariffs.
