other SPI with display

I am trying to integrate a (slightly modified) MCP2515 for CAN to my raspi4 w/ beloved makerplane 5' display. I want to use SPI1 for my MCP2515 so i added

dtoverlay=spi1-3cs

to
/boot/config.txt
however when booting, while it seems ok, the display turns black when it should launch the graphic display...
anyone has a lead to troubleshoot please? or a magic recipe to use several SPIs with the screen.
