FIX: Touchscreen not working after Pi O/S Upgrade

Post by John Nicol »

If you have upgraded your pi image to the latest version, or are using a new image, you may find that your touch screen stops working. If that is the case, here is the process to get new drivers installed:

After SSH login, enter the following command in the command line window, and press enter to automatically execute (note that networking is required):

sudo rm -rf LCD-show
git clone  https://github.com/goodtft/LCD-show.git
chmod -R 755 LCD-show
cd LCD-show
sudo ./MPI5094-show

Your Pi will reboot and you should have touchscreen functionality back.

John,

Thanks so much for placing access to the drivers for the touch screen on-line. The process instructions work great on my Pi 3B.

Just to detail a bit; I upgraded the system installed on my SD card to the latest version. After rebooting the Pi, I verified that the touchscreen was no longer operational. Then I followed your instructions with one deviation- I did not ssh into my Pi, but entered the commands directly from a keyboard. Wasn't sure whether there was something special about using ssh. Every step worked fine, and when the system rebooted, the touchscreen was back on-line.

Thanks for your attention to this. Much appreciated.

SSH is optional and only if you don't have a keyboard attached to the pi. Some users rely on the touch in order to use a virtual keyboard.

Glad that it is working for you. Would love to hear more about the instrument project you are working on as well. Feel free to start a new topic in the forum and share pictures if you want to!
